A few years ago we started playing with just a few friends in a local barn in Braughing. We quickly became very enthusiastic and it soon became apparent that we needed a proper court. We approached Wodson Park sports centre in 2016 and they were very willing to accommodate us during the day. Two courts were initially used on a casual basis but somehow quite a few people joined us and we decided to form a “proper” club with a constitution etc.
We focused mainly on people aged 50 plus and the social aspect is as important as the activity for many. However that doesn’t mean that we don’t take the game seriously and many of us have become very keen and a little competitive. In August 2016 we formally set up the club, also to access funding from our local council. We now regularly take over all the courts in the main sports hall and we have successfully received funding for some proper pickleball nets and practice paddles.
We wish to say a special thank you to East Herts Council and their Forever Active East Herts for giving us such wonderful support and for funding our nets and paddles. Also a great thank you to the management of Wodson Park Sports Centre for their support and encouragement.
