We meet every Tuesday from 1-3pm in the Wodson Park Sports Centre in Ware. Sessions cost just £3 and we always have at least 4 courts available. We also play on a Friday lunchtime from 12.15pm to 2pm.
Play in Bishop’s Stortford
We now also play in Bishop’s Stortford on Sunday mornings from 10 am to 11.30am at Birchwood High School, Parsonage Lane, Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire CM23 5BD. The charge for this session is £4.
Just over two years ago we started playing with just a few friends in a local barn. We quickly became very enthusiastic and it soon became apparent that we needed a proper court. We approached a local sports centre and they were very willing to accommodate us during the day. Two courts were initially used on a casual basis but somehow quite a few people joined us and we decided to form a “proper” club with a constitution etc.
We focused mainly on people aged 50 plus and the social aspect is as important as the activity for many. However that doesn’t mean that we don’t take the game seriously and many of us have become very keen and a little competitive. In August 2016 we formally set up the club, also to access funding from our local council. We now hire 3 courts regularly, or more, subject to numbers and we have successfully received funding for some proper pickleball nets and practice paddles.
We wish to say a special thank you to East Herts Council and their Forever Active East Herts for giving us such wonderful support and for funding our nets and paddles. Also a great thank you to the management of Wodson Park Sports Centre for their support and encouragement.
